Easy Turkey Calendar using Felt ~ Under $10 to make!

Turkey Countdown Felt Activity
completed turkey felt project

Supplies Needed:
ÿ        Pencil
ÿ        Scissors
ÿ        Tape measure or ruler
ÿ        Permanent marker
ÿ        Glue (all-purpose or hot glue)
ÿ        Light blue felt for background – 1 yard
ÿ        Dark brown felt for body – 14”
ÿ        Tan felt for belly – one 9x12” sheet
ÿ        Beige felt for neck/head – one 9x12” sheet
ÿ        Red felt for snood – one 9x12” sheet
ÿ        Orange felt for beak and feet – one 9x12” sheet
ÿ        Assorted felt for 28 feathers – five to seven 9x12” sheets
ÿ        Optional Command adhesive hooks for hanging on the wall

Instructions:
  1. Cut light blue felt about 36-40” high (or more if you prefer) and set aside.
  2. Cut dark brown felt in a 14” wide circle.
  3. Cut out belly, neck/head, snood and beak/feet templates from paper and trace them onto the corresponding felt.  Then cut your felt where you traced.
Tip: You may want to use the permanent marker to trace if you’re having trouble seeing the pencil on your felt.
  1. Lay out your turkey head/neck, belly and feet on your turkey body. When you are happy with the placement, glue them to the dark brown turkey body.
  2. Glue the snood and then the beak to the head.
  3. Draw eyes on the turkey’s head with the permanent marker.
  4. Cut out the feather template and trace 28 feathers on your 9x12” felt sheets. You can get about 6 feathers out of each felt sheet.
Tip: Fold the felt in half or quarters and cut multiple feathers at once to save time.
  1. Assembly: Place your glued (and dried!) turkey on your blue background. Arrange the feathers on the turkey. When you are happy with the placement of the various feather colors, use the permanent marker to write 1 thru 28 on each of the feathers.

turkey feather placementTip: Marking the feathers in order of placement means you can recreate your thoughtfully laid out feathers/colors by putting them in order year after year.

  1. If you’d like, you can cut two small holes in the upper corners of the light blue background and then affix two small command adhesive hooks to your wall to hang your turkey countdown calendar.
Congrats, you’re done! You can either count down by removing the feathers each day or count up by “dressing” the turkey with another feather until Thanksgiving. Have fun!
